I've got the same sort of problem, even though i'm not anywhere near an extreme athlete (the furthest i've ever bothered to run is 14km), my heart rate is about 80 while resting and people i know have resting heart rates in the 60s even though i'm certailny more fit than them. I am confused by it, but i thought it's possibly due to the fact that i'm very tall (6ft 2inches or 190cm) and that makes my heart rate higher. It's just a thought and i don't know if that applies to you or not.

My normal pulse is in the 40s, although 20 years ago in my 40s it was high 30s, but I had an episode a couple of months ago where I relaxing watching TV and noticed my pulse was very slow. I measured it and it was 31. What is that all about?

I have the opposite situation. My resting HR is in the low 40's but it ramps up super fast. My max is 197 yet I can ride above 185 for hours. When I am runing my HR is never below 140, even at recovery pace. It is funny when someone I am racing or training with picks up my signal and they freak out.
